Spaghetti Bolognese

This dish has become one of our family’s favorites. I love that it is a one-pot dish, which pleases my entire family, and my big kids can both cook it themselves. Leftovers are great for school lunches in a thermos.

Spaghetti Bolognese

This recipe will be your new way to make homemade meat spaghetti. It is beyond flavorable.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1-2 onions, diced
  • 2-3 carrots, diced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup canned tomato paste
  • 1 can unsalted canned diced tomatoes (796ml)
  • 1 liter beef and/or unsalted chicken broth (I love the Pacific Foods brand- order on Amazon)
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 450 g spaghetti
  • Salt and red pepper flakes to taste
  • Optional: sprinkle with dried and/or fresh basil, parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, wok or dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat. Cook onions, carrots and salt in oil, 5-8 minutes or until softened. Add beef; cook 5-8 minutes, stirring frequently, until browned and no longer pink.
  • Stir in tomato paste and tomatoes. Stir in broth, pepper flakes and Italian seasoning; heat to simmering. Break pasta in half, and tuck pasta into simmering liquid, covering completely. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook 15 minutes or until pasta is soft.
  • Top with Parmesan cheese and basil, if using. Enjoy!!!
