The secret to these salmon burgers is using fresh salmon instead of the typical canned salmon. These nutritious burgers are moist, juicy, and packed with amazing flavours.
I am sure by now you can tell that I am a huge salmon lover. This was my first time making salmon burgers with fresh salmon vs canned and it was definitely worth the extra effort. Wild salmon is more nutrient-dense than farmed salmon. However, they both contain little saturated fat, are high in protein and vitamin B12. Salmon also contains a high amount of potassium, vitamin D, and iron.
Serve these burgers with a lettuce wrap or your favorite bun. Have fun with the toppings. Anything works…

Salmon Burgers
Ingredients
- 2 lbs salmon filet, skin and bones removed
- 5 tbsp fresh herbs (mixture of cilantro and dill) parsley and chives also work
- 3 tbsp plain Greek or Icelandic yogurt
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 egg
- 3/4 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Dice salmon into 1" pieces and add to a food processor. Add the fresh herbs, yogurt, lemon juice, egg, salt, ginger, and pepper to the processor.
- Pulse mixture until mixed well. You still want some texture to the salmon.
- With your hands, form the mixture into five 1.5" patties.
- Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Cook burgers on a piece of aluminum foil. Cook approx 4-5 minutes per side.
- or Alternatively, cook burgers in a nonstick skillet (add 1 tbsp oil) and cook 4-5 minutes per side on medium-high heat.
